Youth Spring Registration

There is a link to the registration form near the bottom of this page.  Please read the info on this page carefully before registering.

  • For new players, if needed the club can loan you a full set of equipment to get you started (with $20 refundable deposit, while supplies last). There is more info about that program here: LINK
  • If you want to try on a uniform for sizing purposes, let us know and we can have examples available at the Wednesday winter lax sessions at the Midland Civic Arena.

Key Dates

  • Feb 1 - early registration discount decreases from 30% to 20%
  • Feb 28 - Indoor practices begin at the Midland Civic Arena (Wed evenings Feb 28, Mar 6, Mar 13, Mar 20)
  • Mar 1 - early registration discount decreases from 20% to 10%
  • Apr 1 - early registration discount ends

Practices start indoors at the Midland Civic Arena, moving outdoors (weather dependent) after Spring Break. Outdoor practices are held in the early evenings two to four days a week (typically 1-2 days per week for 8U, 2-3 days per week for 10U, 3 days per week for 12U, and 3-4 days per week for 14U) at various local schools.

Games are played on weekends (Saturday and/or Sunday), and on occasion after school on the weekdays. Games start mid-April with the final tournament usually held the first weekend in June. As there are few teams in the Tri-city area, our teams often travel to other locations around the state for tournaments and festivals. Schedules will be published by mid-March.

Note: we don't recommend purchasing the "Regsaver" insurance policy when you register. That option is placed there by SportsEngine, not by us. We have heard that people with legitimate claims (e.g., player unable to play due to injury) have had trouble collecting their refunds due to onerous documentation requirements. If, for example, your child misses the season due to injury, we'll refund your fees. You don't need the Regsaver insurance for that.

Boys Schedule (tentative)

  • April 27-28 - Boyne (8U-14U)
  • May 4 - Hartland Eagle Jam (8U-10U)
  • May 5 - Hartland Eagle Jam (12U-14U)
  • May 11 - Linden (8U-14U)
  • May 18 - Honor the Game (Midland) (8U-14U)
  • June 1-2 - Midwest Lax Bash (Oxford) 12U-14U will pay both days, 8U and 10U play only one day (no schedule released yet)

Girls Schedule

  • Based on initial registration numbers, it is unclear if we will have enough girls players  to field a team at tournaments this spring.
  • In order to try to reboot the girls youth program and increase numbers, the Midland Lacrosse Club board has agreed to eliminate the fee for girls youth players for spring 2024.
  • We plan to practice this spring and try to arrange some games depending on the numbers and player availability (e.g., perhaps 7v7 rather than the usual 12v12 that is played at tournaments).
  • Coach Geoff needed to step down because his daughter is no longer interested in playing. We are looking  for parents who would be willing to help coach this spring. Mrs. Phelps is going to coach. We also expect to be able to have some help from local college and high school coaches and players.

USA Lacrosse registration is integrated within the MLC registration process and membership is required to participate in Youth Lacrosse. The Youth Annual membership fee for USA Lacrosse is currently $15 to $35 depending on age. This fee and the uniform fee are in addition to the MLC registration fees.

During the online registration, uniforms are ordered. Additional uniforms can be ordered if a family desires to be used for games or practices. RETURNING PLAYERS, PLEASE TRY ON YOUR UNIFORM FROM LAST SEASON TO MAKE SURE IT FITS. If you want to try on a uniform for sizing purposes, we'll have examples available at the winter sessions at the Midland Civic Arena.

Coaches/Volunteers

The coaching staff and team managers for the Midland Lacrosse Club are all volunteers. Coaches hold, at minimum, Level 1 coaching certification. Teams are always in need of additional volunteers to help throughout the season.

If you still have questions about registration after carefully reading the information below, send an email to registration@midlandlacrosse.com

Players will not be able to participate in games or practices without the requisite equipment. For new players (and while supplies last), we are offering an initial set of equipment to get you started. You will need to pay a $20 refundable deposit and may keep the gear as long as you are using it. When you are done with the gear (e.g. you decide to stop playing, you outgrow it, or you decide to buy new gear of your own), we ask that you return the loaned gear to us and we'll refund your deposit.

PLAY-UP AND PLAY-DOWN REQUESTS

For most players, the most appropriate team is the one that matches his/her age. However, in certain rare cases an especially skilled player may be allowed to play up one age division or a player that is especially small in stature and new to the game may be allowed to play down one age division if  the relevant coaches deem it to be appropriate. As US Lacrosse recommends (link): "Enable athletes to play down as well as up an age group alongside athletes they physically match with. Keep in mind they must also be a good fit socially/emotionally for the prospective move in age group."

Convenience (e.g. so that siblings will be on the same team) is not a criteria that will be considered for play-up or play-down requests.

If you would like the MLC to evaluate your player to play-up or play-down, send an email to midlandlacrosseclub@gmail.com explaining your reasoning for the request. If the request is approved, you will be given a password that will allow you to register for requested age division.

PAYMENT OPTIONS

Simplest is to pay by credit card when you register. If you need an option to pay offline by cash or check, contact Jonathan Moore at midlandlacrosseclub@gmail.com

USA LACROSSE MEMBERSHIP FEES

Initiation or renewal of the player's membership with USA Lacrosse must be completed by the parent/guardian before submitting the player's registration with Midland Lacrosse. Make note of the player's USA Lacrosse membership #. You will not be able to complete your Midland Lacrosse registration without a valid US Lacrosse membership number.  Here is a link to USA Lacrosse: LINK

UNIFORM FEES

Reversible Jersey: $30
Shorts: $25

Every player (except 8U girls) must have a uniform set of matching reversible jersey and shorts to wear during the season. If you have a uniform from last season that fits, you may use it again this season and pay no uniform fees when you register (remember to check that it still fits!). If you do not have a uniform from last season or need a different size, you will need to order a uniform when you register. If you register by March 1, you should expect to receive the jersey and short sizes that you request. If you register after that date, we will try to accommodate your size request but will be limited by the sizes we have available in stock. If you already have a uniform but want to order extras (e.g., to wear at practice), you may do so when you register (must register by March 1 to order an extra jersey or shorts).

Below are the approximate dimensions of the uniforms. Most of our uniforms in stock will match these dimensions, but we still have some from an older style that may be somewhat different. If you receive your uniform and it doesn't fit well, then let us know.
