Recently-graduated Dow High midfielder Kyle Riter, the captain of the Chargers’ boys’ lacrosse team during his senior season, was selected recently as an Academic All-American, marking the first time a Dow player has been awarded that honor.

A committee of coaches and athletics directors from around the state evaluate Academic All-America nominees submitted by coaches and choose only 22 student-athletes as honorees.

When voting on Academic All-America candidates, the committee considers grade-point average, membership in educational societies, volunteer work, class rank, and performance on the field. Players must be starters and major contributors to their teams in order to be considered.
