Midland boys lacrosse holds off Flint Powers

Jared Zahn and Garrett Brillhart each scored three goals Tuesday night as the Midland co-op boys lacrosse team held off Flint Powers 13-11 in Saginaw Valley League action at Midland Stadium.

Midland led Powers 7-3 at halftime and 10-5 after three quarters, but the visiting Chargers scored six goals in the final quarter to make it close.

Trailing 13-8, Powers scored three straight goals over the final 6:17 of the game.

"In the fourth quarter, our defense got tired, (Powers) won some key faceoffs at the end and they got us on our heels," Midland coach Kurt Brillhart said. "Fortunately, time ran out. It was a great battle."

Also for Midland, Cauy George and Creighton Annelin each had two goals, while Mason Reed, Elliot Moore and Davis Purtell scored once each.

Moore had three assists, Reed had two assists and Zahn, Zach Wilder, and Ethan Richard each had one assist.

In net for Midland, Jacob Pokriefka made 15 saves. Jeremy Brookens won 9 faceoffs, and Joey Cullinane won 6. Ethan Richard led the team with 6 ground balls.

Midland improved to 4-0 in the SVL and 6-2 overall despite missing several starters due to injuries.

Midland host Traverse City Central on Friday.
