A year after losing by one goal in its first regional final in program history, Midland United will return to that round after dispatching Davison 16-5 on Wednesday in a Division 1 boys lacrosse regional semifinal.

"We'd like to (win) this one," Midland coach Kurt Brillhart said of facing Brighton in the regional final next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Oxford. Last year, Hartland defeated Midland 11-10 in the final.

Midland (12-3) beat Brighton 9-6 in the regular season. In Wednesday's win, Midland built an 11-1 lead by halftime.

"We just jumped right out (on Davison)," Brillhart said. "We were scoring about a goal every two minutes (in the first half). So we had a good pace."

Jared Zahn led Midland with four goals and four assists, Mason Reed scored four goals, Garrett Brillhart had two goals and two assists, Creighton Annelin, Davis Purtell, Zac Chichester and Michael Andriot each had a goal and an assist, and Ben Brueck and Chase Mahabir each scored a goal.

Coach Brillhart noted that this was the 6-foot-6 Chichester's first varsity goal, and he also had five ground balls and five takeaways.

"(He's having a) fantastic season," Brillhart noted.

Jack Erickson made seven saves in goal and Midland won 14 of 23 faceoffs.
