Tanner Diment has played lacrosse on club teams, the Midland co-op high school team and collegiate teams at Alma College and Wilmington College.

Now, he's about to take another big step in the sport by playing for Team USA at the Tilburg Lacrosse Cup in The Netherlands from July 23 to Aug. 2.

Diment, 23, was floored when his lacrosse coach at Wilmington forwarded him an email from  Team USA coach Chad Wilkinson that invited him to join the team. Wilkinson had watched Diment play for Wilmington this past spring and was impressed with Diment's play.

"When I first got the email, I was kind of shocked and I kind of thought I was dreaming, because I never thought this would happen," Diment said of being picked to represent his country.
"I'm just really lucky and happy that I will be representing our country over there," the 5-foot, 10-inch added Diment, who plays midfielder and also does faceoffs.

Diment graduated from Midland High in 2014, studied and played lacrosse at Alma College for two years, and transferred to Wilmington College (Ohio), where he also played lacrosse for the past two years.

Having used up his four years of collegiate athletic eligibility, Diment plans to help coach the Wilmington lacrosse team this coming season while finishing his criminal justice degree.
"Some of my greatest strengths are working with other teammates," Diment said. "For me personally, (the most important things are) winning the faceoff and getting the ground balls, and then just working together as a team."

This past season with Wilmington, Diment was ranked in the top 50 in faceoff percentage and fourth in the nation in NCAA Division III lacrosse in ground balls with an average of 10.5 per game.
