Give Back to the Game and Earn Money as a Lax Official

Knowledgeable and skilled lacrosse officials are an important part of the game we love. They are also a limited resource that is generally in short supply. Every spring, high school games are canceled due to lack of officials, and we are usually unable to secure certified officials for the Honor the Game tournament that we host. Growing the population of lacrosse officials is a critical part of "growing the game" in mid-Michigan.

Officiating can be a good opportunity for a parent or graduated player to stay involved with the game. It is also an opportunity to earn some extra $.

Qualifications for officials include:

  • High school graduate or 18 years of age; or a currently enrolled high school student
  • A firm grasp of the sport through previous officiating, coaching, playing or spectator experience
  • Impartial and fair-minded
  • Ability to apply rules and enforce penalties consistently using common sense and fair play

If any parent, high school player, or other qualified family member from Midland Lacrosse is interested in becoming an official, the club will pay for your registration for an upcoming training session for new officials (see dates below).  As a trained official, you will have the opportunity to help with lacrosse in our community and earn money officiating (for example, at the Honor the Game tourney).

Upcoming training sessions:

  • Saturday, January 26 at the MHSAA Office in East Lansing from 9 am - 3 pm  Registration preferred by Wednesday, January 23
  • Saturday, February 16 at Byron Center High School from 9 am - 3 pm Registration preferred by Wednesday, February 13
